K2 is a wildly popular WordPress theme created by Michael Heilemann, Chris J Davis and Zeo, based on the original Kubrick theme. It is an excellent theme with a lot of customizable features.

I personally like 3-column blogs so I searched on the net for a three-column K2 theme, but couldn’t find anything with a sidebar1-main-sidebar2 layout. Also, it seemed like a lot of other people were looking for a 3-column K2 theme. So I decided to fork-off the K2 theme and create a 3-column K2 theme and name it 3K2. I forked off of K2 r167 and I’m hoping to incorporate the any bugfixes by K2 folks as K2 matures (As of 4/5/06, 3K2 is up-to-date with K2 version 310 in terms of features). I also made some changes to default look and feel of K2.

Here’s a screenshot of the 3K2 theme: (click on image to enlarge)

Please keep in mind that this is a beta release. I don’t consider myself a CSS expert by any means. In fact, I’m not entirely sure how and why some of the CSS elements in 3K2 work differently in different browsers, but I did my best to ensure that the theme would look ok in most browsers. As always, if you find any bugs, please let me know.

If you like the theme and use it, let me know so I can provide a link to your site. Also, I’d appreciate if you could support this site by visiting my sponsors or donating via the Paypal button on the left and by linking from your web sites. Thanks for your support!

Also, check out my other themes, 3c-black-letterhead and 3some and some blogging books from Amazon.com

Update (04/05/06): 3K2 is now up-to-date with version 310 of K2. This means it has a lot of new features, including Automattic Widgets support, localization and more!.
Update (04/13/06): Updated element styles for left sidebar, they should now match the right sidebar styles.

nice very nice - this is good i might use it in the future

Aydin that was a much needed enhancement of K”, combining K2’s technical detail with good looking 3-column design. Good work!
I’ll be trying it out in the next few days and will let you know if I come across any issues/improvements/suggestions.
    Thanks and keep it up.

Contents added to the new left sidebar are not being executed in the same way as the standard right sidebar. Any ideas why?

  4. 4 hakan

Diogo, can you give an example? My guess is that you might be forgetting some php tags in the left sidebar code.

Great theme! The only problem i have is the character codification of the comments. I have my site with ISO-8859-1, and the comments written from this theme are UTF-8, so they are barely readable.

    Any way to fix it?

    Thanks!

If you’re using 3K2, make sure you download the latest version. I updated it with the latest features from K2, including localization and sidebar widgets support. Sidebar widgets are really cool! Give it a try.

So to update to the latest 32k we just overwrite all the files right? So customisations we made to the sidebar etc will be lost?

  8. 8 hakan

    Garry,

Yes, you’ll have to carry all your customizations from your old installation to the new installation. To overcome this inconvenience, I usually create a file sidebarinclude.php, and then include that file from the sidebar.php file. So when I update the theme, I just insert the include statement in the new sidebar.php file of the new theme and everything is restored easily.

I’m trying to set this up on a friend’s site, but for some reason, when I go into the theme options and choose the VADER theme, it’s not showing up differently, it still shows the same thing.

  10. 10 Christopher A. Wheeler

I take that back, sorta. On the main page, it still displays the same, but on any other pages it displays VADER. Do you know why that might be?

  11. 11 hakan

    Hello,

I actually didn’t expect 3K2 to work with the default customizations, since some of the width/height of the page objects are different then K2. That said, I’m not sure why it shows up on all other pages except the main page. I’ll look into it.

  12. 12 Christopher A. Wheeler

Looking at the source code confirms that this is happening. When on the home page, the source code shows that it is only linking to the main CSS file. When I visit another page (archive, page, etc) it shows the main CSS file, as well as the vader CSS file. I’m still not sure why. I’d set that as the theme and show you but can’t because the site is live, so I have it set to an old theme for now.

    Thanks.

  13. 13 Chaz

I was wondering why the left sidebar (Assuming it’s called sidebar2) has spacing problems and the original sidebar doesn’t. If you take a look at my site you can see how the left sidebar has no margins around it, or between sidebar items. And the left has margins around it and between the different items. At first I thought it was the items I had in there but now see that it’s with the left sidebar. Any help would be appreciated.

  14. 14 hakan

    Chaz,

I updated the theme files to fix this problem. If you download and install it again, you should be all set. If you already had a lot of customizations to the theme files, you can just update style.css from the new 3k2.zip file and that should work too.

  15. 15 Jim

    Two things:

    1) I’ve discovered that the search results page doensn’t display the left sidebar, so that makes things bunch up on the left margin in an awkward manner.

    2) Is there any way to replace the plain search widget with one that uses livesearch?

  16. 16 hakan

    Jim,

I updated the search results page so it shows the left sidebar.

As for your livesearch question, the left sidebar by default comes empty with the 3K2 theme, so there’s nothing to replace there. If you copy-paste the livesearch code from the right sidebar, it should work in the left sidebar as well.

  17. 17 Seville

Hey Hakan, your template is awesome, really great work! I have some problems though :( .

First the same thing happens to my website like Jim above has with the search results page.

And my next problem is, I want to display the list of the pages on the left side, what works so far, (if you go on Gallery on my website you can see the list of all pages under the gallery on both sides) but I want to take it out of the right side. Everytime I delete this part, the right side doesn’t work, can you tell me exactly which part I have to delete in the sourcecode of sidebar.php, so it won’t show me the list of pages on the right side, I really would appreciate that.

    And last but not least…
When you go to ‘Fun’ on my website for example, it shows your credit “3K2 theme by Hakan Aydin” on the left side, it is not captured in the right sidebar anymore. If you go to “Gallery” it is only a little bit outside the box and on “Home” it’s fine, what do I have to do to fix that.

And before you ask, I downloaded your newest version just hours ago :)

    Thank you in advance

    Seville

    Have a great day

    Alex

  18. 18 hakan

    Seville,

First off the search result page should be fixed now with the latest version. Looks like I forgot to include the left sidebar in the search result pages in the previous version(s). Secondly, it looks like you removed the ‘3k2 by hakan aydin’ from the right sidebar and put it after main content. You haven’t put it in leftsidebar.php, which is why it is looking off in your ‘Fun’ page and on your ‘gallery page’. I strongly recommend you download and install the Web Developer plugin at https://addons.mozilla.org/mozilla/60/ to debug these kinds of problems. After you install the plugin and load your page, hit control-shift-f, and then scroll over the page elements to see their attributes.

    Hope this helps,

  19. 19 Roger

First thanks for this nice columns templates! They are not so many of these and on top of it, it supports widget!

Last, you are very close to the users! You answer time is the same day! Wa! I hunt a lot and believe me, it not everyday that you find such a fast answer time to users.

I was using the widget with another 3 columns theme with this particular widget plug in called ExecPHP. Well! On the other theme, in Explorer it was a big mess! So I change for 3ke and voila 99%ok!

If you look at my site, on the left, you will see below, that I used the ExecPHP for 2 things: one to call a random image and another one for a weather plug in. No big deal, but could I get rid of the little black dot (from the bullet list)??

The first bullet of the random image is pushing the image to the right. And on the weather there is a bullet right after the icons.

This bullet are seen in Explorer, Firefox.

I rerpeat, no big deal! If you could help me, as I am a newbee, i would really appreciate it!

  20. 20 hakan

    Roger,

I’m glad you like the theme.

In your left sidebar code, where you have the image listed, you have a line that says:

    <div class=”execphpwidget”><li><div style=”padd etc etc.

If you remove the <li> from that code segment, you should be able to get rid of the bullet there. Try it and see if it works.

  21. 21 Riger

    Hi again!

    No big deal!
It’s just that under Explorer, the little icons (like the Edit one) are not completly transparent! I mean you see them like little squares!

Under Opera and Firefox…well! No surprise, they shows fine!

    Roger

  22. 22 Otto

Everything inside the “execphpwidget” div is code that you are running inside the widget. Examine the configuration of that particular widget and see what it is doing, because that’s where the list item tag is coming from.

  23. 23 Seville

Hi Hakan, thank you very much for your quick response. I’m trying out the widget sidebar, which is pretty cool. The only problem I have is that when I include pages, it shows me all pages on the sidebar. Without widgets it shows me only the current page as an header and the subpages under the current page. To make it more clear: when I click on about it shows me on the left sidebar only the header “About” and under it the subpages “About me, My family, My friends” without widgets. With widgets it shows the whole list of pages on the sidebar. How can I do it in widget mode so it shows only the current Header and their subpages, any suggestions, that would be great.

    Have a great day

    Seville

  24. 24 TemplateBoy

Good reading. I just added your website to my bookmarks list, hope to read much more interesting stuff. Keep it going!

  25. 25 aboutthisboy

Just a note to thank you for the great theme! I’ve searched high and low for a decent 3 column stylish WP theme and this one is perfect. Have made a few edits, but it was a breeze to install, and works very well with most plugins and widgets!
    Thank you!

  26. 26 aboutthisboy

Oh, one question. I’m having problems with the Asides. I have:

Chosen the category I wish to you in the 3K2 settings
There is a short post under that category
    I have chosen sidebar asides

Now, am I meant to do anything else? They are not showing up at all, but they DO show as inline…Any code I need to add to sidebar.php?

    Thank you in advance.

  27. 27 Mike

How do I change the main body text using the Vadar.css style from gray to white?

  28. 28 Roger

Is it possible at all to use the Random Header Plugin with the 3k2?

I was searching for the #header { background: url(”some_image_url”); } in the header file, and can’t find it!

If not, maybe possible…. in some next version??

    Thanks

    Roger

  29. 29 djmitch

    Hi,
    I’m using your excellent theme.

    Many many thanks….

  30. 30 bungaguy

    Hello Hakan,

Thanks so much for creating this theme. I am very new to wordpress and have only been in the blogging world for a few days to a week. I write a lot, but know little or nothing about codeing, CSS, html, and so fourth. I have been reading a LOT in the past few days, and have spent several hours looking for a good three column theme. Of all I have seen, yours looks the best to me! I have a few questions for you, and any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    1) My hosting is a shared account with limited CPU usage so I need a basic three column template that will not cause excessive resource usage. Honestly, what I need is a basic and simple three column blog. Yours looks good, but I am not a coding expert or even a novice. Is this theme CPU/resource intensive? If so why, and are there any ways I could make it use less resources? Does it automatically incorporate any plug-in’s that would make it resource intensive?

    2) Is it possible to incorporate the wp-cache 2 plug-in with this template? My host has suggested I use this plug-in to help reduce system resource usage. Is it compatible?

    3) Is this template optimized for search engines? I have read one issue is that the “main” column needs to be before the left and right “columns” in the code of the template. Is this the case in this template?

    4) Is this template suitable for a newbie to use? Is it overly complicated to the point you would not recommend it to someone with limited CSS skils?

If you could answer these questions it would be tremendosly appreciated. Thank you VERY much for your time. I think this is the best looking three column theme I have found so far, and I know from everything I have read many others as well as myself appreciate all your efforts and support.

    Thansk!

  31. 31 bungaguy

And does anyone know if those tabs and blue area with the name of the site can be replaced with an image on the very top of the page as a header? I really want to use an image as a header if possible or possibly have an image in that blue area as my title with some text under it.

I appreciate any help you can give me. I am very new to this and am still very low in the learning curve.

  32. 32 hakan

    bungaguy:

    1) No this theme shouldn’t be CPU/resource intensive. That said, it is more complicated and feature packed than most other themes out there, but I haven’t heard any problems with performance with 3K2, or K2 for that matter.

    2) I believe so, and if I’m not mistaken, latest wordpress versions comes with that plugin by default. Someone correct me if I’m wrong!

    3) That I’m not 100% sure. Most of my pages have quite high search engine rankings (if you search of 3k2 in google, you’ll see), but I really can’t say anything about whether the theme is SE optimized. In this template, the left column loads before the main column.

    4) Depends on what you will do with the theme. The basic installation is a good start when you’re a newbie. 3K2 and K2 does have a lot of code in it to support its many features compared to other themes but it is not very hard to understand. Also, if you use one of those ’simple’ themes, sometimes it is hard to achieve the visual design that you want, even if you’re a newbie.

    Hope this helps, enjoy!

    bungaguy:

You can place an image in the header easily. Here’s a tutorial that explains this in detail:

    http://dopamineaddict.com/2006/01/13/modifying-k2-series-headers/

I think you can use images in the menu tabs with the same method.

I’m trying to use the Witty plugin (http://www.w-a-s-a-b-i.com/archives/2004/05/27/wordpress-random-witty-text-plugin/) to have a random tagline. I replaced with in the header file, but it’s just not working. I know I have the right little bit of code because I used it in a PHP widget just to check and it’s working ok there. Do you have any idea why this wouldn’t work for the header?

  35. 35 bungaguy

    Hello Hakan,

After doing more research I decided to go with your black three column template that is listed on the wordpress site’s theme page. Would you say that theme is more basic than this theme? The reason I went with it is because it seemed to be less complicated and did not use AJAX which I have read a few times can create more resource usage. I will now go make a comment on your other post about the three columned black theme.

Thanks so much for all of your advice and suggestions. I really do appreciate it.

  36. 36 hakan

Christopher, would you mind sending me your header.php so I can take a look? Its hard to comment on why the plugin isn’t working without seeing the code. Thanks,

  37. 37 hakan

bungaguy, I don’t believe AJAX uses more resources on the server side, but generally speaking, 3K2 is a bit more complicated than 3c-black-letterhead.

    Hakan

  38. 38 Christopher A. Wheeler

OK, so I don’t know what happened, but suddenly it is appearing. I tried clearing my cache and everything the other night and that didn’t work, and I even tried viewing the site from a computer that had never been to my site before and that didn’t work either, but now it is working.

I do have another question though, i’m using the tantannoodles.com Flickr album plugin, and I was wondering what the best way to try and add the link to that gallery to my header menu. Falbum I understand is integrated, so when I activate that plugin, there is the gallery link in my menu bar. Do you know of a way to make that other one like that too, or is that a huge hassle?

    Thanks,

    Chris

  39. 39 hakan

    Hi everyone,

I released another theme, 3some. Here’s the link to the post: http://aydin.net/blog/2006/05/01/wordpress-theme-3some/

  40. 40 Thomas Brock

    Hakan,

Love the 3k2 theme! I do have one question…I’m using WordPress 2.0.2 and the Widgets plugin. My right and left sidebars are formatted differently…

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Thomas Brock
    www.brocknet.net

  41. 41 Christopher A. Wheeler

I’m not sure if this is a problem with 3K2 or with Falbum, but the gallery page on my site doesn’t look right; the right sidebar displays below and to the right of the gallery images, as opposed to being… where it is supposed to be I guess, next to the images.

    http://www.christopherawheeler.com/pictures/

  42. 42 hakan

    Thomas Brock:

It is not just your sidebars, but your posts as well. It seems to me in one
of your posts, you opened a <font face=”times new roman … > etc tag, but
forgot to close it, and after that tag everything is being converted to that
    font, overriding the css.

    Hakan

  43. 43 hakan

    Christopher:

Well I looked at your CSS, and apparently falbum has its own css that it imports using the following link :
    http://www.christopherawheeler.com/wp-content/plugins/falbum/falbum.css.php

Falbums css is messing up the theme css. Actually falbum.css.php has a comment in it that says:

“”"This is a sample stylesheet that can be used with FAblum, and is provided so that the default page looks half decent under the default Wordpress 1.5 theme - Kubrick

This stylesheet will most probably break in other WP styles, so you can’t rely entirely on this stylesheet. Use it as guidance. Ultimately, style issues are not the fault of FAlbum.

This stylesheet is commented so you know what each section does, and can customise it accordingly, or pull out just the sections you want.”"”

  44. 44 Brian

I love this theme I am going to use it on my site, but obviously I will completely redesign the look. And to correct you wordpress does not come with that plugin. Wordpress intergrated a similar feature but it is much less effective.

  45. 45 aboutthisboy

Hi, I know this is a repost, but I’m still struggling! When I activate the sidebar asides in the 3K2 options, what further steps do I have to take to get them to show up? (I am running the widgets plugin).
    Many thanks.

  46. 46 Garry T

Hi i’m pretty sure i should be asking this question to the creators of K2, but i’m just wondering if you will support the ‘Canvas’ software which has just been released. http://www.freshpursuits.com/canvas/

    Thanks

  47. 47 hakan

aboutthisboy, I really haven’t used asides before, so I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you at this time. I hope someone else can help you out.

  48. 48 hakan

Garry: This is the first time I’ve seen that software canvas. I don’t know if and when I can put support into 3K2 for canvas. I’d like to first use it and see how it works. Wish I had more time… ;)

  49. 49 Al

    You’re great!

  50. 50 erica

hey! just wanted to say hi and thanks for the awesome theme. i’m still studying to figure out how to put in my own header art, but i imagine i’ll have that sorted in a day or two. anyway i’m testing out lots of fun things and this is by far my fav theme i’ve tried. i’m sticking with it definitely.

  51. 51 hakan

    erica:

Thanks, you have a great site by the way. You can put a header image by opening up your style.css file, going to the section that starts with #header, and insert a line that looks like:

    background: white url(”background-image.jpg”) center center no-repeat;

Check out the following pages for more info on how to customize headers:

  52. 52 Jake

I’m loving the theme so far. Very clean and easy to use. Ran across one minor bug:

If I create a standalone page called “About”, then the code for setting the transparency of the top level menu items in header.php is broken. It marks EVERY entry in the list as “current_page_item” when you go to the Author Archive.

Also, would be nice if we could disable the search box altogether instead of just livesearch on/off.. Nothing major, I just commented it out.

Really great work though, much appreciated!

  53. 53 Aaron Engelsrud

Love the theme. I am using it on my site right now, I have modified the style sheet and created a new style called ‘running’. Please come take a look at http://engelsrud.com

    Thanks!

  54. 54 hakan

Aaron, your site looks great. I really like the header image also.

    -hakan

  55. 55 Harper

Your theme was exactly what I was looking for! I needed 2 sidebars for content and a nice big header for random pictures. One thing I need help with is this: what modifications need to be done to the css file for links in the posting to be a ‘different color/underlined’ to make them stand out, but at the same time leave the links on the sidebars plain (I do not want them underlined/colored unless moused-over)? There are a lot of links in the sidebars from rss feeds and having all them underlined at once is hard on the eyes. If I remove this feature from the css, I also loose it from links in my posting that I DO want to stand out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  56. 56 Terry

Hello. I have been through the code looking for a way to eliminate bullet points from category headers for link lists in both sidebars. The input from one sidebar is text from Sidebar Widgets and the input for the other sidebar is from the basic Categories. Bullet points are showing up on 3 of these headers and I cannot find the ul or li style code that has any bullet description. All say “none.”

    Any recommendations?

    www.franbest.com

  57. 57 Allister

Absolutely awesome skin and just what I was looking for.

One slight visual oddity that I would like to clear up is why the left sidebar content starts lower down the page than that in the right sidebar. I’ve looked at style.css and both seem to have 15px padding on the top, so I am at a loss.

  58. 58 tilda

    Hi there,

I have a lot of pages on my site, how do I remove them from the header, as I want them to only show up on the sidebar.

    THanks.

  59. 59 Jordan

The theme is great; it makes blog pages look like a very professional web page. In addition to Terry’s issue previously posted, I am having an issue with the theme when using Internet Explorer on for Mac. The message, “Handler could not be removed” first appears, then the third column will not show up on the right (like I’m using K2), while the page selector is also disabled. Internet Explorer 5.2.3 is very old and I don’t know why someone would use it on a Mac, but the problem still exists and these errors occur each time I load our page in IE. The page works great on Firefox and Safari for Mac, and IE for PCs, but Microsoft (no surprise) hasn’t updated their browser for Mac in three years. I found this information online and wasn’t sure if it would be useful or not. http://ask.metafilter.com/mefi/21241. Thanks for your time.

This is a GREAT theme! Thank you so much for all of your work.
Could you tell me what file I would edit to get the “Edit” link and icon to stop appearing on each post? I know little and did not want to mess things up. Thank You.

  61. 61 Ethem Tolga

That’s my favourite theme in Wordpress. I’m moving my blog from Blogger to Wordpress and i chose this great theme. Thank you Hakan.

By the way, i think i need a little help for header. I’m not coder and not pro in Wordpress. So i’m wondering how can i clear the white area top of the header (top of backgroung image/color, you can see it on my blog). Could you anyone help me please?

    Thank you for this theme.

  62. 62 Tina L. Eveland

First of all I love this theme, and have it installed. Looks great made a few changes to personalize it.

Have a link that tells it is yours.

Now I could use some help? I would like to add a code to shorten the links listing and the categories listings, to where it is a drop down box. The code I have for the categories listings doesn’t work? I have tried to follow WP’s forum help, but on this particular theme that won’t work? Will you help Please? The other problem is that on the links listing I never could find a drop down box code that works? Help in this area would also be greatly appreciated.

If you need to contact me I will be online all day today.

Thanks once again for the Fantastic theme!

  63. 63 Craig

This is something I really will consider using for my website. Excellent work.

  64. 64 Laura

Great theme - I’m using it at Pursuing Holiness, with a little tweaking.

    Thanks!

  65. 65 Lurch

Great theme. I was finding that i had too much content for a single side bar, and this solved it.
However with my knowledge of HTML and CSS files being zip (a dev, i am not), I realise it was asked early, however - using the Vader theme, how do i change the main blog text from the dark grey to a light Grey or a white?
    Cheers,

I’m using it … I like it very much!

  67. 67 Jake

Nice work. I must have downloaded 50 templates and couldn’t really decide until I saw this one. Easy choice….really nice layout and professional look.
Now for the tough part…. integrating it with the look and feel of my site.
Compared to other templates I have tinkered with, this one has been the easiest. Just a few problems that I could really use some help with.

-rollnavigation is not showing up in ie?…this is causing the #primary to pull up
-leftbar not snugging up to the bottom of my header
-within my header, my background image (the line) looks as though it’s stretching more than 100% width? I would also need this line to be 5px away from the logo.

    Thanks again….great theme.

Thank you very much. Just what I was looking for. Simple and elegant coding I would say.

I was using the K2 theme and was happy with it until I started pulling feeds into my sidebar and then it was longer than the posts itself. And then your theme came to my rescue.

  69. 69 Ryan

    Hi Hakan,

Thanks for the theme, but I wouldn’t be here if I was not having an issue. My “Latest” section in the default sidebar is displaying the last URL in every link.

Like href=”link to tenth post”>title of first post

  70. 70 Antonio

Thanks for the great theme. I am using it. I have made a few changes to personalize it. I hope you like it.

  71. 71 hakan

    Ethem,

To get rid of the white area on top of the page, edit style.css, go to the section that is labelled ‘#page’ and change the first parameter of the ‘padding’ variable to 0.

  72. 72 hakan

    John Berry:

To get rid of that ‘edit’ button, open up ‘theloop.php’ and remove the php tags that contain

    “edit_post_link(__(’Edit’, ‘k2_domain’), …. ”

    That should do it,

  73. 73 hakan

Hi. The question of how to add a header image to 3K2 seems to be getting asked a lot. Although it has been answered before above, here it is again:

You can put a header image by opening up your style.css file, going to the section that starts with #header, and insert a line that looks like:

    background: white url(”background-image.jpg”) center center no-repeat;

Check out the following pages for more info on how to customize headers:

    http://dopamineaddict.com/2006/01/13/modifying-k2-series-headers.html
    http://www.paulstamatiou.com/2005/12/28/customizing-k2-part-1/

    Hope this helps.

If I change my site from two to 3 rows will i lose my color scheme and plugins?

  75. 75 hakan

    joe:

Well, yes, if you already have a site with your own colors and schemes, just by selecting 3c-black-letterhead as your new theme, you’ll lose all your colors. But you can play with the CSS and match your existing color scheme.

This is a fantastic theme and really love it, it is very clean and seems to work well in my Mac browsers…well except IE 5 for Mac… who cares anyway. Just a quickie.. I have categories displayed in my left sidebar when I click on any of the listings other than architecture my images are nor displayed. Can you help me figure out why this is? Ps: I’m a newbie….however I’m learning very fast. Thanks in advance your help

Do you have any interest - or know someone having an interest in modifying your 3k2 theme? What I have been trying to do - and failing - is modify it so that each category page has static content in the center and the posts related to that category on the sidebar . . . (plus other things). Any interest? I would think there would be demand for such a theme.

    Jim

  78. 78 Ryan

Hakan, Have you had any reports that this theme does not work in IE6 for Windows XP?

I get the following error message: Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet web site http://liberatr.net/.

    Operation aborted

I was able to switch out themes to K2 and everything seemed to be OK. Maybe the AJAX search/archives?

  79. 79 Ryan

    To Ryan, (myslef)

The “Previous posts” is also broken in K2 without 3 columns, so there is something else at work here.

  80. 80 Yvonne

Hi - loving how customizable the theme is. But this has really stumped me … is it possible to change the background colour/style of the two sidebars from that of the page content?

  81. 81 Alex

    Hi Hakan,

I’m almost done with my site and I’m using the great 3k2 theme. Unfortunately the content of the left sidebar and the middle is in firefox too much left and goes over the columns, it looks almost perfect in IE, there it’s only a slight too much left. Can you tell me where exactly can I change that, so it goes more to the right and how, since I’m not good in CSS at all.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help

    Alex

  82. 82 Fredrik

    Hi there,
Sorry to bother you. I am using K2 for my personal blog, www.ifred.se, and I just found your 3K2 and I think it is great, and wanted to use it for our Bangkok Triathlon Club.

I would like to use our logo for the header though, and have that clickable, is that possible..?

    Hello!

First of all, great theme! I’m walking against two things:

    1. If I place a picture in one of my blogpost and the text next to it is smaller then the picture is, the header of the post under that will be placed next to the picture, instead of under it. Firefox Web Dev learned me that the picture is not included in the space of the blog block. Do you now the problem and hopefully a solution?

    1. The second thing is about the two sidebars and that there not equal top aligned. It only occurs in Firefox, IE doesn’t have the problem. This issue was mentioned before, do you have the solution?

  84. 84 amy

Hi. I have the same question as Thomas above me, the two sidebars have a different spacing from the bottom of the header. I am not an expert, but I looked for any padding or margin that could be causing this and came up with nothing. Am I just not seeing something?
    thanks,
    amy

This really is an awesome theme but I can’t figure out how to customize it. I am currently testing this on http://Test.FinancialNirvana.com but I need help for two things.

    1. I want to show blog categories on the left sidebar. I can’t figure out how to do this?

    2. I also want to customize the header tabs so that I have Home, India, Energy which go to another subdomain. How can I edit the tabs in the header to change the text and the url they point to?

    Thanks in advance.

  86. 86 Mikyma

    Hello,

First of all apologies for my bad english. I hope you could understand me.

I have created in my page a blog in wordpress (with 3k2 three column) but I have a problem to show the messages. The case is that I have like predetermined in the options that on screen me do not appear any more than 5 post. The problem is that they never show me any more of this 5 post and besides, when you give him to a category wich has more than 5 messages simply it shows you the last ones 5 the others … as if they did not exist.

In the normal page of entry there are a bar which you can go to previous messages. You can move to go from a page to other one - to see previous messages - but this bar “disappears” when I click categories or file that have more than 5 messages and show me only the last 5 written messages and the others previous messages…like they did not exist.

I want to know if this can be solved. What I want is when someone click in a category//file that has more than 5 messages could put the bar to see previous messages.

I don’t know if it will be necessary to put a code or something else.

My blog, if you want to see it, is that: urbancity.es/systemfailure

If you see “Historia’s” category you see that exist 13 messages but when you click it only shows the 5 last messages.

Well, thank you for all. I hope you could help me!

  87. 87 Thomas

    Hi again!

Issue 1; don’t know cause but i do know how to prevent it: add “” in you post.

still, what to do about issue two…

  88. 88 Thomas

    hmm, between pointed brackets:
    div style=”clear:both;” /div

  89. 89 Rebecca

Love your theme for K2! I’m having a slight issue I wondered if you could help with. If you look at my site, my first blog entry is quite a bit down the page. Any idea why?

    Thanks for your help!

  90. 90 Rebecca

Oh, the first entry somewhat down the page seems to happen in firefox browser.

  91. 91 hakan

    Rebecca:

I don’t see a problem with your site with the first posts, rebeccawright.com, did you fix the problem already? Looks great in both my firefox and IE.

  92. 92 hakan

    ryan:

Sounds like you have had several different problems with the 3K2 theme. I just went to your site but looks like you switched themes. If you try 3K2 again, let me know if you have problems again. You’re the only one I know who had those specific problems so far.

  93. 93 Alex

    Hi Hakan,

I really don’t wanna bother you, but I still can’t find a solution for my problem on www.afrison.com

The content of the left sidebar and the middle is in firefox too much left and goes over the columns, it looks almost perfect in IE, there it’s only a slight too much left. Can you tell me where exactly can I change that, so it goes more to the right, since I’m not good in CSS at all.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate your help

    Alex

  94. 94 hakan

    Alex:

It is hard for me to figure out what to change without seeing the full code of your blog, but here is my best guess: I think the background image you’re using as the leftbar may be causing the problem. Try enlarging the width of the leftbar, by editing the .leftbar section of style.css and increasing the width from 150 to, say 170, without changing any images. While doing this, decrease the width of the center column. Actually, perhaps you should start by removing any default images in the stylesheet first and see how that works. Give these a try and see how it goes. Good luck.

  95. 95 Thomas

I’m still having spacing troubles with mij left sidebar. Differences between IE en Firefox:

    - above column: IE -> equally aligned with the right sidebar. Firefox -> leftbar lower aligned then right sidebar. In the right sidebar Firefox doesn’t add spacing above the first sidebar title in the right sidebar. In the webdev tool of Firefox you can see where he adds the spacing and where not.

    - left of column: IE -> more space on the left then on the right of the right sidebar. Firefox ->

do you know how to solve this differences between firefox and IE?

  96. 96 MInTheGap

I’m having trouble with this theme on my site. It is not rendering correctly on IE6, though it’s fine with Firefox and IE7 beta3. I think it has something to do with the slider. Any ideas?

  97. 97 Thomas

I replaced my website to my frontpage: http://thomas.pandemonium.nl

I hope you know something to resolve the problem

  98. 98 Juergen

Hi Hakan, your theme is great stuff, way cool! But I got a problem with the option »flexible width«. In k2 it worked perfectly, but in 3k2 it doesn’t. I tried in several browsers (Firefox, Safari, IE, Opera). I‘m working on a Mac. Since I don‘t know much about customazing themes, I have no idea how to fix it.

  99. 99 Juergen

Hi Hakan, great work, way cool!
I got a problem with the »flexible width« option. In k2 it worked perfectly, but in 3k2 it doesn‘t work anymore. I‘m working on Mac and encountered that problem in several browsers: IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera.
Since I don‘t know much about customizing a theme, I got no idea how to fix that thing. Thanks for your help in advance!

  100. 100 hakan

    Hi Juergen,

I know for a fact that flex width doesn’t work. In fact, I removed some of the flex width related code, because when I added the 3rd column, flex width stopped working properly, and I didn’t have the time (and patience!) to fix it.

    Thanks,

  101. 101 Jam

Hey! 3k2 is the best theme. I am using it on my lyrics site. Keep up the good work!

  102. 102 Cyrus

hi, this theme is exactly what we were looking for! I’ve got just one question (or perhaps two):
is it possible to replace the big blue header with an random image??? Can I use a plugin for it?
    THNX!

  103. 103 hakan
  104. 104 Christian

Love using your template. I do have a question about the navigation slider. It works great until you slide it all the way to the left (earliest posts). You can’t scroll it back once you’ve gotten that far. Seems like a bug. Is there a fix for this?

    Thanks!

  105. 105 Dave Miller

    Hakan,

Great theme but I am experiencing some troubles.

First, In Firefox, the search box does not work. Related, may also be the fact that when I click on a permalink, the previous and next post links at the top of the page don’t work, they point to the home page. Works in IE though.

Second, I’ve been able to do this in other themes… how to I get the Latest, Links, etc., to show up on all pages. I’m not extremely experienced in php, which might be part of the problem.

Third, In both Firefox and IE a border is being placed around images in posts. I have called out ‘border=”0″‘ in the post code, but I still get a border.

And lastly, is there anyway to have all three columns at the same height? If you notice on my site right now they are all at different heights.

Thank you very much for the great theme and your help.

  106. 106 Andre

Do you have an Icon for this theme like the k2 Icon on the bottom of the unsleepable theme? Would like to give the credit in Icon style.

See the bottom of this flickr picture to see what i mean: picthttp://www.flickr.com/photos/frotzed/135426851/

    Thanks!

  107. 107 Omar

    great theme….thanks

  108. 108 Kenneth

    Hakan,

Firstly, GREAT theme…just what I was looking for.

    Now my questions: :)

    1. I’m trying to truncate the posts on the index page so the user will have to click on a ‘more’ link to read the entire post. I did this in the past by editing the main index file by changing ‘the content’ to ‘the excerpt’ but it looks like your theme operates a little different and I’d have to edit the ‘loop’. I cannot find where I would edit this…ideas?

    2. Does anyone (or you?) have any problem refreshing the page (especially in Firefox) using this theme?

    Thanks again.

  109. 109 Tom M

Hi, excellent theme - I’ve been running it for a few weeks now and it’s looking good.

  110. 110 George

Very nice - I like the anchored reply box a lot!

  111. 111 Pavel

    Big thanks for your theme!

  112. 112 BK

HI Great theme, I was wondering if you had any plans for a v.09 Update?

    Thanks
    BK

  113. 113 Chrissy

Great theme! I am new to css but was able to get my logo into the header and adjust some things. Unfortunately, I may have messed something up. The blog looks great in Firefox, but is messed up in IE. The header is just supposed to be pink, but in IE 6 the whole page is pink (would be white with just a pink header) and the right column contents are moved down. Can you help me or direct me to a place where I can get a little help?
    Chrissy

  114. 114 Eddy

I LOVE this theme–but it doesn’t work with ie… can you help?

  115. 115 Awreccan

Is there anyone to use the left sidebar to store static content? What I want to do is use the left sidebar to include links relevant to the category: each category would have its own unique and related sidebar content. Is this easily doable?

  116. 116 Thomas

    @BK
A v0.9 update would certainly be interesting!

  117. 117 barry

As many people have said here, this is a great theme, and just what I’m looking for.

But, is there anyway to have all three columns at the same height?
Looks this way on Firefox and Safari for the mac. I’ve read people post about this here, but I don’t know if anyone came up with a solution..

    Thanks very much.

  118. 118 Michael

    Hey Hakan,

First off, great theme! I’m using it for a few of my blogs and they look great with a little bit of simple tweaking.

Just one little tweak I’m having trouble with.

When a user clicks on a Category it takes them to a page with posts within that Category. However these posts now only show a few lines of the post and no images contatined in the post.

How can I make it so that when someone views a Category, the results show the whole Post and any images within that Post?

Some help would be greatly apriciated.

    Thank you,

    Michael

  119. 119 hakan

    Michael,

If you open up the file called theloop.php and search for the code that says

    php if (is_archive() or is_search()) {
    the_excerpt();
    } else {

    }

    and change it to

    php if (is_search()) {
    the_excerpt();
    } else {

    }

    you should be all set..

  120. 120 Pro Rettore Campo

Hi hakan and thank you for this nice theme that I’m using now on my weblog.

I’ve the same problem of Michael but I tried to fix it writing

    php if (is_home() or is_search()) {
    the_excerpt();
    } else {

    It’s exaclty what I needed!

  121. 121 Chris

Hi Hakan, great theme but I am getting an interesting post issue as seen here http://ce23.com/error.jpg. I am not sure why but any image that is longer than the actual post end up having the following post fill in the empty space…as shown. Any info on a fix for this?

  122. 122 vibhash

    Nice theme:)

  123. 123 nat

    Hi Hakan!

Thanks for your wonderful work! I’m leaning heavily to using this :)

Just wanted to repeat a simple question - any word on an update for k2 0.9.1?

Actually, does anyone know of a way we can do this ourselves without breaking something?

Also, any insight on what the big differences are between 310 and 0.9.1?

  124. 124 Thomas

Chris, to fix that you should put the following line behind your post:

  125. 125 Thomas

Oke, this site won’t show that, the following line with the after:

    div style=”clear:both;”>

  126. 126 Thomas
  127. 127 Doug

Great theme! This is exactly the theme I’m looking for in terms of real-estate and simplicity. The only issue is that I’m getting a few JavaScript errors every time the page loads? Has anyone found a fix for these or will it be in the next release?

  128. 128 Ciel

hi, thanks for the very nice theme.
I want to do some treaking on “Read more… or Read more right here… »”.

I tried to look into theloop.php, but no luck. Can you tell me where I can find the entry?
    THanks!

  129. 129 Ray Dotson

Great theme. I have it set up on my site and it looks great. I’m having one little problem, though. Whenever I use widgets in the right sidebar, the livesearch disappears. How can I keep it from going away and still use widgets in the right sidebar?
